In other grammy news Beyonce, OutKast, Jay-Z, and Pharrell Williams each received six Grammy nominations Thursday (December 4) during the press conference held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in Beverly Hills. The 46th Annual Grammy Awards will be held on Sunday, February 8, 2004, at the Staples Center in Los Angeles, and will air on CBS from 8-11:30 p.m. EST/PST.
Among Beyonce's nominations is a nod for the Record Of the Year for her song "Crazy In Love" featuring Jay-Z. OutKast is up for two of the year's top awards. The Atlanta duo's song "Hey Ya" is a contender for Record Of the Year, and their album, Speakerboxxx/The Love Below, is in the running for Album Of the Year.
Missy Elliott, Eminem, Evanescence, 50 Cent, Chad Hugo, Ricky Skaggs, Justin Timberlake, Luther Vandross, and Warren Zevon each earned five nominations.
The nominations for the top categories were read by Pharrell Williams, Evanescence's Amy Lee, Jason Mraz, Stacie Orrico, Brad Paisley, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds, Dido, Sarah McLachlan, MC Lyte, and Moby.
Moby joked as he recited the nominees for the Best Performance By A Duo Or Group With Vocal and Best Traditional Pop Vocal Album categories. For the Best Performance, he noted his personal favorite, in a field featuring Bon Jovi, the Eagles, Fountains Of Wayne, Matchbox 20, and No Doubt. As he read the list he said, "Fountains Of Wayne, which should probably win for 'Stacy's Mom.'" In the Best Traditional Pop Vocal field, Moby made up comical titles for nearly all of the nominees. For Barbara Streisand's nomination for the Movie Album, he called the album How To Defeat Our Current And Next President."
Evanescence, 50 Cent, Fountains Of Wayne, Heather Headley, and Sean Paul were nominated for Best New Artist. Missy Elliott, Evanescence, OutKast, Justin Timberlake, and the White Stripes are all up for Album Of the Year.
Missy Elliott, 50 Cent, and Pharrell Williams scored the most rap nominations. Beyonce, Erykah Badu, and Luther Vandross lead in the R&B category. Audioslave, Evanescence, Foo Fighters, Nickelback, Train, and Jack White of the White Stripes earned at least two nominations in the rock field. Christina Aguilera and the late George Harrison received three nominations in the pop field. And Johnny Cash and June Carter Cash both received posthumous nominations in the country field.
