News: CHER SAYS SHE'S LIVING LIKE A NUN IN VEGAS |
|
By NEKESA MUMBI MOODY AP Music Writer
NEW YORK—Cher's concert stand in Las Vegas may be the ultimate representation of Sin City: it's decadent, glitzy, oversized, over-the-top and a thrill-a-minute experience.
But when she leaves the Colosseum at Caesars Palace at the end of her performance, the 62-year-old singer leads a lifestyle quite opposite from the kind that Las Vegas has come to represent: She stays out of the casinos, refrains from drinking, doesn't smoke and stays away from the all-night party scene.
"I like to go out, do my work and then come home," says Cher, who likens her time away from the stage to living like "a nun."

| News: CHER GETS HER DISNEYLAND FIX |
|
Jumping on the recent Mickey bandwagon (Tom and Katie took Suri to Disney World on Valentine's Day), Cher became the latest celebrity to make a pilgrimage to the mouse, causing a stir at Disneyland in Anaheim, CA on Tuesday afternoon.
"At first, a lot of people didn't realize it was her until people started taking pictures," an onlooker tells RadarOnline. "She was in a really good mood and waved hello at the other guests."

| News: CHER: NEW CO-STAR IS JACKASS |
|
Cher, the legendary, the timeless, and the Oscar winning is getting ready to make her film comeback. Her co-star is a jackass.
Sources say that the star of "Moonstruck," "Mermaids" and other comedies is getting ready to make a film with none other than Johnny Knoxville.
"The Drop Out" is written by "Family Guy" writer-producer Ricky Blitt, who last teamed with Knoxville on a 2005 feature called "The Ringer." That one was a send up, believe it or not, of the Special Olympics.

| News: CHER GIVES STAMP OF APPROVAL TO BONO POSTAGE |
|
By Liz Smith
CHER, the one and only tells us that she is lobbying the U.S. Postal Service to commemorate her late ex, Sonny Bono, with his own stamp. Cher says she would join forces with Congresswoman Mary Bono Mack, who was married to Sonny at the time of his death, to make this honor a reality. And the U.S. Postal service is keen to the idea. One high-up said "A Sonny Bono stamp would be a lot of fun, especially if Cher would attend the dedication for it." Though Cher and Sonny divorced rather bitterly, and Cher was snarky from time to time about her overly controlling ex, she never denied that it was Sonny who was the architect of their careers--as pop stars and later, as TV icons. He had to push her on stage, he had to assure her that she had fabulous sound, he gladly played straight man to her wisecracking put-downs. He made the decisions and for the most part -- at least professionally -- he was on target.

| News: CONTRARY TO RUMORS, CHER IS DOING JUST FINE |
|
Earlier this month, Cher canceled a number of shows at Caesar’s Palace due to what her rep said was “Vegas throat.”
Though the rumor mill went into overdrive with reports suggesting the legend was actually suffering with everything from severe abdominal problems to cancer, a healthy looking and spirited Cher said she is just fine during her recent visit to Access Hollywood.
“Can I tell you something? If I had cancer, everyone would know it,” Cher told Access’ Billy Bush. “I wouldn’t tell them, but somebody would. When you have those kind of things happen, if you’re famous, you can’t keep them a secret.”

| CHER TO HILARY: WE WANT YOU BABE! |
|
BY LIZ SMITH
What has happened on the pre-convention scene since last Wednesday
has set political junkies on their ear! After he won the primary,
Barack Obama looked like an unbeatable Democratic candidate. But,
Sen. Hillary Clinton, who fought the good fight and emerged as an
ever-more important and dynamic persona, would still not be his
choice for vice president. Those of us Democrats who were for her --
that is, the rational ones among us -- accepted this fact and turned
our support to Obama. He has many appealing qualities and his
election is important to anyone who has their mind on the far right
drift of the Supreme Court.

| News: CHER PROMISES THE 'MOST SPECIAL SHOW WE'VE DONE' |
|
By Mike Weatherford
She had the loudest show on the Strip in 1980.
The most expensive ticket in town in 1990.
Now, Cher is the most anticipated Las Vegas arrival of 2008, and she's promising "the most special show we've ever done" in 200 dates during the next three years, starting today in the Colosseum at Caesars Palace.
Cher and Las Vegas are much alike, reinventing themselves over the years without abandoning their mutual zeal for going over the top.
Some fans plunking down as much as $250 for a ticket may not pause to realize Cher has been working the Strip for 39 years.

| News: LIVE: CHER AT CAESER'S PALACE |
|
By Ann Powers, Times Pop Music Critic
May 8, 2008
She might be 62, but the singer is still full of her trademark glitz and glamour. Her show is lavish, nonstop fun.
LAS VEGAS -- Like the temples of the ancient Roman world that it simulates, the Colosseum at Caesars Palace is an environment suited to extravagant immortals. The artists who've graced its huge stage have all achieved that status in which one name not only serves but also explains and expands upon whatever the star projects.
First there was Celine, clean and lean, selling every song with unmatchable melodrama. Then came Elton, whose eloquence (if not always elegance) weighs a ton. Later, there was Bette, and you can bet on her -- she's the go-to girl for solid showbiz flair.

| News: CHER READY FOR 200 CAESERS VEGAS SHOWS |
|
By MICHAEL CIDONI
LOS ANGELES (AP) — Cher said farewell, but not goodbye. Two-and-a-half years after the final show of her three-year "Farewell" concert tour, the Oscar-, Emmy- and Grammy-award winner announced last week that she'd signed on for a three-year, 200-show engagement at Caesars Palace.
Cher told AP Television the move was no mere change of heart.
"Well, first of all, there was going to be a big time between ending the show, ending the tour, and going to Vegas," she said. "I wouldn't have to move. I wouldn't have to travel. I could just stay there. Because that's what I really can't do anymore, is I can't go on the road. It's just too much. It's just too impossibly hard. And I started there, and I thought that it might be fun."
